Hi Prince,
I am quite excited to share a piece, or should I say pieces of my life with you as well as my classmates. Not to down play the obvious, I AM A NERVOUS WRECK! But, I have already chosen my symbols I am going to bring to represent my different stages in life. Do you have any tips for us as new public speakers? I just keep telling myself, I have the power therefore I am able!

Excellent!

The only tip you need for this first speech is that you should practice a couple of times, but you really don't need to worry about any tips because this is a really low stress speech!!

Hi Vanessa,

On Thursday we discussed our speech due on Tuesday 9/3. It is the "Me, Myself and I" speech, otherwise known as "The Bag Speech". You need to bring in three different symbols, one that represents your past, one that represents your present and one that represents your future. You need to spend ONE MINUTE discussing each in front of the class, so your speech will be 3 minutes long NO MORE NO LESS. So practice it a couple times to make sure you meet the time period.
Prince asked "What can you fit in your bag that tells all about you?"

Write this down in a notebook !!

- Power is defined as the ability to do. If you believe you have the power to do something then you have the ability to do it.

The main goal of this class is to empower you.

"The squeaky hinge gets the oil" -Malcolm X
(This is important)

Theory is defined as a way to understand or explain something. A way to control or predict a phenomenon. Like a philosophy (understanding the world)

S-->R ("Magic Bullet")
Send or Receive, this is a model of communication
The arrow is the message
-Definition of Denotation is the literal definition of a word.
-Definition of Connotation is what is implied by a word, the emotion behind it.

Definition of Praxis is the application of theory, knowledge gained by experience.

Will we be turning in this speech on paper as well as presenting it to the class? Or will only our presentations be graded?
